5)Sunderland v Newcastle Preview (Saturday 20 August 12 pm)
Sunderland Pre-Match Report
In the first derby of the season, Sunderland will be desperate to put their home advantage to good use and pick up a morale boosting win over their rivals. They have won just one of their last 13 Premier League meetings with Newcastle however and will look to improve on that stat on Saturday. There were issues defensively last season – they have kept just two clean sheets in their last 17 top flight matches – but with the addition of Wes Brown and John O’Shea, Bruce will hope to tighten up his defence. They have however, won just once in their last seven Premier League games at home.O’Shea is set to make his debut for the club on Saturday having recovered from a hamstring injury which kept him out of pre-season. Striker Asamoah Gyan has shaken off an ankle knock and will also be fit to start but Frazier Campbell (knee), Craig Gordon (hand) and David Meyler (knee) remain on the sidelines.
Predicted Team: Mignolet, Bardsley, Brown, Ferdinand, O’Shea, Larsson, Cattermole, Colback, Richardson, Sessegnon, Gyan.
Newcastle Pre-Match Report
Newcastle have taken maximum points from just one of their last nine away matches and will therefore be looking to improve that form this weekend. They have however become a tougher nut to crack, having lost just one of their last seven top flight fixtures. That run of form includes just one victory however and in order to cement a top-half finish this season, they need to start grinding out victories.Tim Krul looks set to keep his place in goal with Steve Harper continuing on the bench whilst Shola Ameobi should also continue upfront. Ryan Taylor is likely to continue at left-back but Sylvain Marveaux and Shane Ferguson (ankle) are short of match fitness. Hatem Ben Arfa remains on the sidelines with an ankle injury but is not far away from fitness.
Predicted Team: Krul, Simpson, S Taylor, Coloccini, R Taylor, Cabaye, Barton, Tiote, Jonas, Ameobi, Ba.
