Arsenal Pre-Match Report
Arsenal begin life without Cesc Fabregas, and probably Samir Nasri, when they host Liverpool on lunchtime this Saturday. The sale of Fabregas was inevitable whilst Manchester City are closing in on Nasri. Some fans have turned on Arsene Wenger over the fact he has failed to invest heavily in the market this summer. They were unimpressive in mid-week but did secure the 1-0 victory over Udinese in the Champions League.Gervinho and Alex Song are unavailable for the match after both collected three match-bans against Newcastle last Saturday. Kieran Gibbs and Johan Djourou both limped out of the mid-week game against Udinese with hamstring injuries whilst Jack Wilshere, Abou Diaby and Armand Traore remain on the sidelines.
Predicted Team: Szczesny, Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Jenkinson, Walcott, Ramsey, Wilshere, Rosicky, Chamakh, Van Persie.
Liverpool Pre-Match Report
Kenny Dalglish’s new-look visitors will be keen to put the disappointment of last Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland behind them. The last match between the two ended in a 1-1 draw after a controversial late penalty from Dirk Kuyt in April but it is 11-and-a-half years since Liverpool last won at Arsenal in 2000. They have also won just three of their last 20 Premier League games against Arsenal and none of their last eight.Defender Glen Johnson is a doubt for Liverpool whilst captain Steven Gerrard continues to recover from a hamstring problem. Dalglish may make changes with Martin Kelly and Dirk Kuyt pushing for the starting berths ahead of John Flanagan and Jordan Henderson.
