Many of you must have heard of this movie from its interesting and questioning trailer released way back long time ago. From its first trailer, it is seen that something inside a carriage is trying to break out after a train crash which left us all in a state in desire of knowing what is in there. In the second trailer, characters are shown and the frame of the story is revealed but still the thing inside the carriage is kept secret.
Finally, today I knew what the creature is after watching this film in cinema, a short break away from all my assignments. Okay…a bit of spoiler, it’s an ugly huge alien creature wishing to repair his spaceship by using strange white cubes and electrical items to return to its place (unknown). However, the story isn’t really concentrating on the alien, but instead on characters’ development of the main casts, especially the young boy, Joe with his father and his lover…but still the exciting parts are on the scenes with that creature which is very intense.
I do feel bored in some parts of the movie especially when things go very slow on the dialogues which took most of the time of the film. It is good for character’s development but it is just bad in living up our mood or excitement in watching it. Luckily there are still some hilarious moments in the dialogues. The scene of the train crash is very lengthy and very much exaggerated, but that is the part that caught my attention the most. There are also some very shocking scenes that would suddenly frightened you out of an unexpected state especially when the creature suddenly came out and hitting something.
Overall, the visual and sound effects are great, especially of that crash scenes and some scenes involving the creature which seems to be very angry of humans. This movie received much hype because of its famous executive producer, Steven Spielberg and because of everyone wanted to know what’s in there, but finally the movie turned out to be not very much focusing on it, but rather on that young boy, Joe. This is somehow disappointing. The creature seems to be just a back up story which is so different with what the first trailer intended to show. I am also a bit disappointed after looking at so many good reviews of it, with some even praising it as the best film of the year so far. I definitely don’t think so and I think it’s just a very ordinary film. Out of 10 points, I would only rate this one 7.0.
